The El Camino site was heavily constrained both spacially and administratively, yet despite these issues our design team created three comfortable 2-bedroom residences that have ample access to open space, light and air while having an exterior space that is welcoming and insulated from the neighborhood. A significant design feature is the circulation through the site - the curved stair highlights a protected Heritage Oak Tree and shared open space. The curvilinear design feature is continued as a meandering path through the site. It is designed to create a fun and pleasant series of encounters as one meanders through the space while maintaining privacy for the residents. The commercial space on El Camino Real – along with parking access – provides a more appropriate street presence and buffers the residences from the heavily used road.
